Pathway into the Ocean Economy
The ocean economy is the new economic frontier and one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. The ocean promises wealth, and exciting potential for boosting employment, economic growth and innovation. “Conservatively, ocean-based industries’ gross value added could double in size by 2030, reaching around USD 3 trillion and are anticipated to employ over 40 million people” (OECD 2016).
The ocean economy is tied to a group of interconnected industries which is rapidly expanding and changing. To succeed in this environment, the youth of today will require transferable STEAM skills which can be meaningfully used to address many of the big social, economic, and environmental challenges.
"Building a sustainable ocean economy is one of the most important tasks and greatest opportunities of our time"
(Ocean Panel, World Resources Institute 2019).
An Australia Adventure Awaits
CASE Ocean School is an Australian-based study program. Known as a leading nation in ocean exploration and management, Australia sees the benefit of international collaboration as the ocean is a shared resource and the driver of the modern global economy.
An island nation waiting to be explored, it is home to some of the world’s most valuable and ecologically diverse ocean habitats. Showcasing the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system, breathtaking coastlines, and rich indigenous culture, the program provides a learning experience like no other.
“The oceans surrounding Australia and the Australian Antarctic Territories are among the most biologically diverse in the world”
(CSIRO, Australia 2017)
